Pondering Alphabetical Thanksgiving

Hello all, I Just wanted to post some Thanksgiving thoughts. Since, it seemed so popular on FaceBook for folks to go through the Alphabet and say what they were thankful for each day leading up to Thanksgiving, I decided why not do it all at once.  And so without being overly serious, sentimental, funny, nor political, I will use the Alphabet to share some of things for which I am thankful. For the sake of time, I will aim to keep each one short and focus on the first person, place, thing or idea that comes to mind.

A

Aaron - my brother. The best brother I have ever had.  If you by chance read this, hope you and yours have a Grateful Thanksgiving.

B

Ben / Benjamin - my very own name, I have to say I think it's one of the best names on the planet. Perhaps I am biased.

C

Cars - I'm privileged to have two aging vehicles that are fully paid for and which give me something to fiddle with when they are running.

D

Dad - my dad, my wife's dad and both of my granddads.  They truly are heroes and great men who live authentically.

E

Evan - my first born son. Loves to the see and talk about underlining plot lines in modern movies and video games.

F

Family - many of whom will be missed today (unfortunate that COVID is a legitimate threat to health and wellbeing). Yet, I will think of them in high regard.  May they all have a Grateful Thanksgiving.

G

God - who spoke the universe as we know it into existence. Who permits us life and space to perhaps learn grow and continually be becoming.

H

Hotels - this one strikes me as Strange.  As I ponder, perhaps it's 2020 and what COVID has done to the planet, travel and vacations.  Many of us can probably think of our first experiences in a hotel. The strange excitement of being somewhere other than home with people we love.  My first memories of this was with family traveling on vacation. So the experience was enjoyable.

I

Igloos - ingenuity of humans to survive the most treacherous of conditions. It's sad that so many of us look at early humanity as though they were primitive. Perhaps we should honor what little memory of them that we have left and be thankful for those whose ingenuity propelled us to this point.

J

Justin - my youngest son. The kid who always has deeper plan. A question is not simply a question, and statement is not just a statement, there is something deeper afoot.

K

KC and Ibi - Two kitties who I continually put up with despite my allergies to cats.

L

Lynnea - my sister. The best sister I have ever had.  If you by chance read this, hope you and yours have a Grateful Thanksgiving.

M

Mom - my mom, my wife who is the mother of my two kids, my wife's mom and both of my grandmothers.  They truly are heroines and great women who work hard to provide good homes for their family.

N

"No, no" is a truly amazing word.  A word my grandfather used to tell us that's not something we should be doing especially when it could of been harmful or destructive.

O

Octopus - is actually the only word that comes to mind.  They are truly brilliant creatures with tentacles and the ability to produce their own cloud within which they can hide from predators or attack their prey.

P

Pie - It is Thanksgiving today, so Pies are on the menu.  We already sampled the apple pie for breakfast.  It's healthy. An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Q

Quintessential. What an excellent word and a very good question for 'The Pondering Man & Random Thoughts". What is quintessential? What really matters in this world? And what is worth living and dying for?

R

RC - Remote Control Vehicles. Especially crawlers.  The more authentic looking the better.  I also dream of racing, the thrill of the speed and precision.

S

Shonda - my wonderful wife. 20 years and we still find each other interesting. Looking forward to many more years.

T

Thanksgiving - the recognition that many people, things, ideas, innovation have worked together to bring me (us) to this point along with recognition that I (we) need to be investing in what is to come so that our ancestors may also be thankful.

U

Umbrella - I must be unimaginative, since this was the first U word that came to my mind.  Though, I can say a quality umbrella that does not turn up or easily break with the slightest bit of wind can provide good protection from the elements.  Also, there is a certain coziness and intimacy that can be experienced when sharing an umbrella.

V

Violin family of instruments.  Such interesting and amazing sounds can be made with these instruments.

W

Water - to make coffee of course.

X

X-rays - interesting how it can see through things.

Y

Yo-Yo's - an interesting toy.  Unfortunately, my line seems to always get twisted.

Z

Zygote - haha, why not.  The beginning of one's life, worth being thankful for.

Hope you all enjoyed 'The Pondering Man & Random Thoughts'.  May you and yours have a Grateful Thanksgiving.

Pondering Common Core

*Image by Amerigus  Shocking:  America continues to except ‘common’ as the word that describes its educational system. America was founded on exceptional thought and consideration. America is uncommon in it’s choice of government and bill of rights to it’s citizens that in many ways expands around the globe. From the people who spread the ideals of freedom prior to 1776, to those who fought to secure America’s Independence, and those who fought for a more perfect union, the essence of America is far from common.   Yet, our educational system continues it’s aim to reduce everyone to commonness.   Furthering my research and delving into the common core web site for more information and understanding, I am appalled to read the following:   The composite standards [of Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore] have a number of features that can inform an international benchmarking process for the development of K–6 mathematics standards in the U.S. First, the composite standar...

pondering - ELECTIONS - Odd Truth

Odd Truth : The US Presidency is not the most Important Election. The Most Important Elections are related to those who actually have the greatest power - those in Congress. We could have a dumb president and the country would mostly get along just fine. But the moment we have a  Dumb Congress , no  Smart President  can fully save the day. Trump definitely exposed the width, breadth, depth and  putridity  of the  SWAMP . Unfortunately, America voted for the majority of them. America  needs  to vote better and really work and push to have a fair, open, honest and free election. Don't ever think that a Representative or Senator is a small election with little consequence. Every elected official contributes to how our country leans, works with or wars against others. We need to elect people who will understand, they are not there to be served by us, but they are there to serve and represent  US(A) .

pondering the DEATH PENALTY

Of late, I have seen many Facebook posts pushing a statement for the end of the death penalty. In a perfect world, where no one ever commits a heinous deadly crime, I would say, ‘Yes, we don’t need a death penalty.’ However, in our world, where crime and hate run rampant, I believe there should be a death penalty heinous deadly crimes.   One of the posts that I find most appalling is this one:   “The death penalty is not about whether people deserve to die for the crimes they commit. The real question of capital punishment in this country is, Do we deserve to kill?”   ― Bryan Stevenson, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption This particular quote has a very low view of humanity and suggests that we the people who have not committed a heinous deadly crime should lower our heads in shame and ask ourselves, “do we deserve to kill?”   This is extremely bad logic and a poor way to look at and respond to heinous deadly crimes.   We have law because people encro...
